Mentoring and course guidance

Mentoring is for the plan around the subjects: what to revise this week, how to choose a senior course, and how to get through an assessment block without pretending a colour-coded timetable is the work. It is not a substitute for maths or English tutoring, and it is not registered career counselling.

What a conversation can cover

Students in Year 10 often need the differences between HSC courses explained in plain language before they sign a school form. Students in Year 12 often need a weekly order of work that matches the exams they actually have, not a generic study playlist.

We will explain those differences using the public syllabus. We will not enrol a student in a school course. The school does that.

What we will not claim

We do not claim to be careers advisers, psychologists, or university admissions officers. Post-school options can be discussed in general terms. Applications and early-entry schemes should be checked on the university and UAC sites.

Questions families ask

Is mentoring the same as a subject lesson?

No. A subject lesson teaches the course. Mentoring looks at planning, course choice and study habits. A student can need one, the other, or both.

Can you tell us which HSC courses will maximise an ATAR?

No. Scaling is not a reason to pick a course the student cannot do. The useful question is which course matches their current level and their school’s advice. We will not predict an ATAR from a subject combination.
